A black Adam

Black Adam and the rest of the JSA are featured on the latest magazine cover, which was shared by Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.

Shazam! is a DC cinematic project that has been in the works since 2007, and the former WWE wrestler turned Hollywood celebrity has been in talks to play Black Adam ever since.

The project's development halted in 2009, but Warner Bros. revived it in 2014 with the announcement of their DC Extended Universe.

Later, it was decided to make two separate films out of the Shazam! concept, with Johnson taking the stage in one as the anti-hero Black Adam.

Johnson promoted the film during the first DC FanDome streaming event in 2020 when he announced the inclusion of the Justice Society of America (JSA), a superhero squad founded by Sheldon Mayer and Gardner Fox in the 1940s.

In the end, Aldis Hodge's Hawkman, Pierce Brosnan's Doctor Fate, Quintette Swindell's Cyclone, and Ray Fisher's Atom Smasher would round out Johnson's on-screen crew (Noah Centineo).

At first, Hawkgirl was supposed to join the JSA as well, but she ended up being replaced by Cyclone due to a complicated web of circumstances.

Johnson has lately shared for his followers a picture of himself and his co-stars on the cover of Total Film magazine.

Black Adam, played by the actor, takes center stage, surrounded by the Justice Society of America.

The future of the DCEU is heavily dependent on the reception of Black Adam upon its release.

Johnson has said several times that his addition to the series will permanently alter "the hierarchy of power in the DC Universe," and with so many other DC titles now being canceled or in danger, it is hoped that this new feature will help guide the company onto more stable ground.

Johnson appears more than prepared to have his character emerge as a prominent player in the series going forward, despite worries being raised about the future of DC's big hitters like Henry Cavill's Superman.

There are a number of reasons to be concerned about the future of DC's second superteam, the Justice League, including Ezra Miller's persistent erratic conduct and rumors that Henry Cavill is uninterested in any return to the DCEU.

When Black Adam is finally freed, the JSA may step up to the plate and become an even more integral part of the DC canon.

Hodges' Hawkman and Brosnan's Doctor Fate both have considerable potential for future appearances after the film's release.

Meanwhile, the release date for Black Adam has been set for October 21.
