Blue Bloods has been on the air for so long that even its mother network CBS laughed about it a few months ago, but fans of the show may rest assured that it will return for another season in the 2022-20023 schedule. The sitcom stars Tom Selleck, Donnie Wahlberg, and Bridget Moynahan and follows a family of police officers with a lengthy history in law enforcement.
The renewal isn't surprising, considering Blue Bloods is one of the most popular shows on television, with an average of 9.81 million viewers tuning in every Friday to see which case the Reagan family will take on next. According to CBS, Blue Bloods is the most popular show on Friday nights and is a social media success during the premiere of new episodes.
The Emmy-nominated series is currently in its 12th season and has aired over 250 episodes over the course of its ten-year existence. The popularity of the show suggests that, like Grey's Anatomy, there is no end in sight as long as viewers keep watching. Blue Bloods joins a long list of popular CBS shows that have been renewed, including Young Sheldon, the surprise hit comedy Ghosts, S.W.A.T., CSI Vegas, and a slew of other procedurals that the network has become known for.
Kelly Kahl, president of CBS Entertainment, issued an official statement congratulating the cast and writing team on the renewal:
"America's favorite law enforcement first family is returning for season 13!" The Reagans have an uncanny ability to connect with people from all walks of life and across all platforms. And now in its 12th season, with over 250 episodes, 'Blue Bloods' not only maintains its ratings dominance but also shines on a creative level. Week after week, this incredible cast, led by the outstanding Tom Selleck, brings universal and accessible human themes to life, while executive producer Kevin Wade and the talented writing team construct captivating episodes containing the show's distinctive blend of family dynamics and police work. Next season, we hope to see a lot more Reagan family dinners."
Robin Green and Mitchell Burgess, who also worked on The Sopranos, created Blue Bloods. Len Cariou, Will Estes, Marisa Ramirez, and Vanessa Ray also star in the series.
On Friday nights, CBS broadcasts fresh episodes of Blue Bloods. On Paramount+, you can watch all of the episodes of the series.
